All rafts must pass scrutiny prior to the start of the event, and must conform with the following:
- Your raft must be crewed by a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6.
- No crew member to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs (this would result in you being immediately disqualified)
- Raft minimum dimensions are 5ft by 3ft, and its size must not exceed 10ft by 7ft.
- No engines, marine hulls, rowlocks, or paddle wheels (e.g. pedalo)
- You must sit on your raft, and not in it.
- Raft designs must avoid having any dangerously protruding or sharp parts.
- Rafts must be constructed from non-toxic and non-polluting materials. Any barrels or containers must be completely clean both inside and out.
- The use of water cannons or pumps is strictly prohibited; however, water pistols and super soakers are allowed.
- Inflatables are acceptable.
- Rafts must go into the river only as directed by the stewards.
- The throwing of any material is strictly forbidden.
- All rafts must be removed from the river on the day of the race.
- We make reasonable endeavour to ensure that the Raft Race is held in a safe environment. You will appreciate that any closure of the river in the event of any health control issue would be out of our control, as we will be directed by WASP and Thames Water.
- The raft race is a fun, family-oriented event. The races can be competitive but ultimately good sportsmanship should prevail. For example, any attempt to deliberately sabotage another team’s chances of finishing/winning is not acceptable and is punishable by disqualification (at the discretion of the Scrutineer)!
